General English Level 3 GELEV3 Unit 01 Topic 02.doc READING 01 Schooldays Wendy and Miriam are writing about their school days. Wendy: When I was young I went to a school in the city. The school was a long way from my house, so it took more than an hour to get there. The school rules were very strict. I had to wear an ugly uniform, and we used to get homework every day. The French teacher at my school was awful. We weren't allowed to speak English in class. We had to speak only French. She gave us tests all the time. I liked sports at school but we had to play hockey early in the mornings in winter. It was freezing. Luckily we got a new PE teacher after a while and she let us play hockey in the afternoon. I was good at swimming but I couldn't take part in the summer swimming camp because my parents made me study during the vacation. I'm glad I'm not at school now. Miriam: My favourite subject at school was geography. The teacher was so nice, and interesting too. We were always allowed to hand in our homework late. One teacher let us call her by her first name, Jane. She was the best teacher at my school. We didn't have to wear a uniform, but I wasn't allowed to wear jeans. Also, I had to go to bed before 10 pm on a school night. My dad used to drive me to school in the morning. When I did well in my exams, I could have some kind of treat. I liked all of my subjects. I always got good reports when the school had a parent / teacher evening.
