In 1985 Madonna went on her first tour. Born
on August 16, 1958, she learned dance and
drama at High School. In 1977 she went to
New York where she studied dancing and
worked as a model. Later she played drums
and sang with a club band. Eventually she
broke into pop. In 1984 she put across a
tough, raw image and teenage girls copied
her look. Some time later she became an
actress. Madonna is the top female pop-idol
of modern times, and she always keeps her
image fresh. She has become a model for
female pop stars.
Michael Jackson, who was born on August
29, 1958, was the seventh of nine children.
When Michael was five years old, his father
started the "Jackson Five" with Michael as the
lead singer with his four older brothers. He
had incredible talent, charisma and a great
voice. The group was one of the most popular
in the 1970s.
1982 Michael left the group and released
"Thriller", which became the best-selling
album of all time, with 50 million copies sold
worldwide. Michael added music videos to the
singles from "Thriller". He was the first to use
film in this way. In 1994, Michael married Lisa
Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley,
the famous pioneer of rock and roll from the
1950s. They divorced two years later.During
his long career, Michael has won almost
every award from the music industry. He has
sold over 200 million records worldwide.
