It should be about 5 to 7 lines long. The example shows you how to set out the dialogue. 3. Try out the dialogue. Change any language that doesn’t sound right. 4. Give your dialogue to another pair. Situations • A conversation between a man (Alex) and a woman (Georgina). Alex loves Georgina and wants to marry her. Georgina doesn’t love Alex, she loves someone else. • A conversation between a car salesman and a customer (Mr Lawrence). The salesman wants to sell the customer a large, expensive imported car. Mr Lawrence can’t afford to buy this car and wants to buy a smaller one. • A conversation between two friends (Bob and Tony). Bob wants Tony to lend him $500. Tony doesn’t want to do this, because Bob never repays the money when he says he will. • A conversation between teenagers Sarah and Alan. Sarah wants Alan to take her to the movies, but Alan wants to go to the football with his friends. Example Alex: Georgina, I love you more than anything in the world. Will you marry me? Georgina: Alex, I’m not sure … WRITING Dialogues 1. With your partner, read the dialogue you have been given. Act it out if you want to. 2. Now change the dialogue into reported speech and write it down. Ask your teacher if you have any problems. 3. Give a copy back to the pair that wrote the first dialogue. 4.
