Read the three passages. 3. Write the correct topic sentence above the correct passage. There are two extra topic sentences that you do not need. An increasing number of Americans are buying their groceries online. More Americans buy their groceries online than any other country in the world. Skipping breakfast is bad for your health. More Americans are eating breakfast on the run or missing it all together. For many American adults, winter is the season when their eating habits are most unhealthy. 1. The winter period includes important festivals such as Christmas and Thanksgiving. According to the results from a national survey, more than half of all respondents said they tend to eat and drink more during the winter holiday season. Also, 54% of people report that the type of food they eat during winter is more fattening than the food that they eat during other seasons. 2. In fact, the percentage of American’ who skipped breakfast or ate it on-the-run has increased from 16% in the early nineties to a current 24%. One of the main reasons for this trend is the increasing popularity of foods that are easy to eat and carry such as yoghurt, breakfast snack bars and bagels and fruit. 3. As modern life becomes more and more hectic, consumers are demanding more convenient and time saving ways to do their shopping. Consequently, the number of companies and supermarket chains who offer their products online has grown dramatically in recent years. Research shows that customers are only too happy to pay a small additional charge to their shopping bill in exchange for the ease of shopping online. 14
